We’re excited to share that Caretag has opened a new office in Lisbon, Portugal. The new space combines our sales and service hub with a state-of-the-art RFID tagging lab, created to meet the growing demand for our solution in hospitals and healthcare facilities around the world.
Responding to the urgent need for MDR compliance
With our headquarters in Denmark and now a new office in Portugal, Caretag is building a strong European presence in both the north and the south. This expansion allows us to support hospitals, partners, and medical device manufacturers across the continent — faster, more locally, and at scale.
The timing is no coincidence. As hospitals and manufacturers face mounting pressure to comply with the European Medical Device Regulation (EU MDR 2017/745), the need for compliant surgical instrument traceability has become critical. The regulation mandates full traceability through Unique Device Identification (UDI), requiring systems that ensure transparency, patient safety, and lifecycle documentation.
Meeting the MDR’s traceability demands is a complex task — and Caretag provides the infrastructure to make it achievable.
Certified tagging closer to you
The Lisbon RFID lab is operated by a dedicated and certified team, trained to deliver safe, secure, and scalable RFID tagging. Whether it’s retrofitting existing surgical instruments or supporting production tagging, our new facility ensures consistent quality, documentation, and regulatory alignment.
With the Lisbon office, we’re strengthening our presence in Europe and investing in the future of surgical instrument tracking. It’s an exciting milestone for us and our partners.
– Michael Leibig, CCO & founder of Caretag
We’re proud to grow alongside the demand – and we look forward to continued innovation, stronger relationships, and real-world impact from our new Lisbon base.
